How to Add Technicians w/Licensing Numbers to Michigan Tickets in HITS
The state of Michigan currently mandates that technician names and licensing numbers be included on every work order for any serviced vehicle.
As an interim solution, a workaround has been implemented and will remain in effect for several weeks until a permanent enhancement is deployed in HITS. Technicians have been added as service items within the system, enabling their information to be included as line items on each ticket. To facilitate this process, each technician is listed with their M# as the product number, and the description reads: "Technician: First_Last Name M#xxxxxx." This method provides an efficient way to add required technician details to work orders, ensuring relevant parts and services can still be entered while allowing technicians to quickly input the necessary line using their M#. The configuration closely aligns with how such information appears on TirePower invoices.
There are multiple options for adding the technician line item to a ticket. The most efficient method is to enter the M# in the Product # field and press Enter. This action will automatically retrieve the technician’s information, which can then be saved to the ticket. Since these M#s are set up as product numbers, they may also be located from the Main page using either the Product or Inventory button. Additionally, the Line Items Tab allows for direct entry of the M# in the Product # box.
Steps to implement the workaround on a ticket:
- Start the work order and enter all relevant customer and vehicle details.
- Enter any parts and services, then add the technician line
- From the Line Items tab, input the M# in the Product # box and press Enter. The technician’s information will populate. Click “Save Item” to add the technician line item to the ticket.
- Alternatively, from the main screen, click the Product button, enter the M# in the Product # box, and press Enter. Click “Save Item” to include the technician line.
- The same process applies when using the Inventory button and searching the M# as “raw size.” However, please note that because these items do not have stock quantities, it is necessary to select "Show Zero and Negative Quantities" before performing the search.
- Alternatively, it is possible to use the same search option and, instead of entering a raw size with technician M#, type the word TECH, select the Description button, and check the “Show Zero and Negative Quantities” box. This will display the complete list of technicians.
This procedure ensures compliance with state regulations while maintaining operational efficiency until the forthcoming system update is available.
