How to Add a Canadian Vehicle to HITS
CARFAX receives vehicle history information from thousands of sources across North America, including every Canadian Province. CARFAX Canada uses the 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to generate reports, just like in the US. Therefore, if you are using the VIN, you shouldn't have any issues pulling the data on the vehicle.
How to Identify VIN by Country of Origin
The first digit of a 17-character Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) indicates the country of origin or final point of assembly:
- A VIN starting with 2 indicates the vehicle was assembled in Canada.
- VINs starting with 1, 4, or 5 indicate assembly in the United States.
- A VIN starting with 3 indicates assembly in Mexico.
Canadian Vehicle Entry Process
- Enter the VIN in the designated field and select the CARFAX option.
- Add the Canadian plate (skip state), mileage, and other details.
- Save the entry and confirm via Vehicle Lookup.
